ZoneAlarm users warned off latest upgrade

ZoneAlarm version 8 was pushed out to customers of the company's Internet Security suite as an automatic update over a week ago, since when there's been hundreds of complaints about the software on the ZoneAlarm users' forum.

Reported problems include laboriously slow shutdown sequences, tardy resume from standby and botched installations.

The furore has prompted ZoneAlarm's publisher, Check Point, to advise customers to revert to a previous version of the software. "ZoneAlarm is still investigating and collecting data on the slow shutdown, slow coming out of standby and slow logging off user issue," reads a statement published on the user forums by a ZoneAlarm representative.

Ihad several issues with ZA Pro.
Caused many problems with the Privacy Filter as many forums (just like this one) wouldn't fully load, even after a few refreshes.
I had an installation issue when I tested it on my Vista machine. Installed it from a user account but with the installer run as admin and I was unable to uninstall it!
As you could understand, I don't recommend it anymore!

I've only installed older versions for some time now. Most of the newer stuff has been buggy and crated all sorts of problems for users, just as you experienced.

For the last few versions of ZA (I was using the security suite), I have had problem with shutdown. It would hang at the True Vector. Nothing major... It would eventually move on, but it did hang.

Even though I was a beta tester and got my choice of all of them for free, I had eventually disabled everything but the firewall, in favor of other free AS and AV's that performed later. Up until a few months ago, I never used anything else from the moment ZA came out.

But after test proved there were problems with the firewall, I just decided to uninstall it and go with Comodo free version. I am very happy with it.

We'll it'd be nice to get at least one of my original mods back here to being somewhat active.

You know Tom, I have always been with you here in spirit.... :)

I plane to participate a more, but Steve seems to be way ahead of me. I kind of feel like I am no longer your "Go To" guy, elevating Steve to heights that I could never hope to obtain,

Jealous, yes... and it hurts.

hm? ...that sounds familiar. Last time it was an ISP issue. >><

Time will tell I suppose. You'll be keen to note some of the tings the two new mods have suggested and we've implemented already.

Their young and eager, as opposed to old, bored and saddled with excuses. rofl
