What Happens In Vegas...

Postby Johnincal » Mon Feb 25, 2008 8:26 pm

I live in Las Vegas, NV. and those of you that visit this forum may or not know that they advertise, "What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas".

Las Vegas is a "24 hour town" (which means that the casinos and bars never close) and the growth is astonishing (Las Vegas population is almost 2 million and is growing at a rate of almost 4%!).

As you can imagine, a lot of strange stuff happens here.

I thought I would start a thread giving you the highlights and lowlights of this town.

I will try to link to sites that have the full stories, but this is mostly for the interest of our forum users.

The saying here by the locals is "Only in Vegas..."

Here is just a sample of what has happened:

Henderson Police (which is almost a suburb of Las Vegas), stopped a man in a ice cream truck for running a stop sign. The man did not speak English very well, so the police allowed the man to call his wife, to help in the translation. The man's wife arrived in another ice cream truck, with their children. According to police, the woman threatened the police and her children with a knife and they shot and killed her. witnesses have come forward claiming the woman did not pose a threat.

The Monte Carlo Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip recently caught on fire due to a mishap with welders on top of the roof. It seems that the structure of the hotel was not damaged, but it turns out that the facade of it was made of foam that melted and burned. The hotel itself was closed for 3 weeks. All the employees were paid and even compensated for their tips by the company.

Last year, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro), handcuffed and arrested a man. They put him in a police car. He was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. The man escaped out of the car and started running, with his hand still handcuffed behind his back, unarmed. Metro Police shot and killed the man. There was coroners inquest and the police claimed they feared for their safety. It was determined that the shooting was justified.

Former Clark County Commissioner Lynette Boggs is facing two criminal charges. One is that she lived at an address outside her commission district and the other is that she claimed her babysitter as a campaign expense.

Imitation can be the highest form of confusion. So learned a Las Vegas man who alerted the media this week because he thought he had his hands on a rare photo of Marilyn Monroe posing nude as a hitchhiker.

The photo was actually of Madonna and appeared in her 1992 book of risque photography, "Sex." Lawrence Nicastro said he found the photo last year while going through storage items at his home in Las Vegas. He believed it had been left by a customer at his service station in the Bronx in 1962.

I will try and post this on a regular basis, so you may want to subscribe to this topic and feel free to comment.
