(the not so) Clever Cleaner

Postby MysteryFCM » Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:27 am

I saw this on ACF and couldn't help but burst into a bout of laughter ...

OP wrote:Can anyone help me please

I have managed to clean out my favourites by mistake,
I have restored system but they are still not there.

I would be very grateful of any help

The response was;

Was that CleverCleaner?

What a nasty. Says it right there in the screenshot

Favorites deleted
History deleted

Well, there goes my idea that you could recover something by archiving
your Internet Explorer history.

I am obviously not laughing at the OP as it wasn't his/her fault, but I have to ask what the author of this program was thinking when the "feature" was added to delete the favourites?

... and indeed, where the "free memory gained" comes from? .. surely this should be "free space gained" if anything?

Okie dokie ....... I've not even allowed it to clean anything yet and already I'm recommending against using it, and thats just based on it's "File search masks" ....... why on earth would you want to allow it to delete a DBX file? (in this case, the deleted items DBX file for Outlook Express ....... deleting the contents of the DI folder is fine, but the DBX file itself shouldn't be deleted unless you want to have OE crying).

.... and why are .old, .gid and .dmp in there? .old is generally used when upgrading file's (i.e. .old is the version you go back to if things go ti*s up), .dmp is a massively helpful file when a BSOD occurs, and .gid file's are a part of Windows Help (not something you should be deleting!!!).

.... but here's the best part ....... when I loaded it, it had 3 possible boxes to tick, only one of which was pre-ticked ..... MY DATA DRIVE! (i.e. the one I store my file's on!!!), the Windows drive wasn't pre-ticked!!!

There ain't no way I'm gonna allow this to run on my lappy (I really wish my test machine hadn't died now :o( ).
