A new search engine?

Postby grits » Tue Aug 17, 2010 3:02 pm

Has anyone heard of a new search engine named yippy? A friend mentioned it to me but when I went to check it out I got a WOT warning so backed out. She said it doesn't track you like Google or Bing.

Thanx,
grits

I don't believe it's one I've heard of before. Do you have the domain name handy?

Sorry Steven, I'm pretty much 'puter dumb, don't know what "domain name" really means but I posted the same question over at Jean's ( where you're also Admin.) & she sent me to a safe link. I kinda looked it over several days ago but haven't had the time yet to really read it.

Thanx,
grits

I was curious when I saw this (used to have a list of search engines before Google and Bing came out) and this is what I found out about yippy.com :

http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/yippy.com

If you want a search site that does not track you .. what about this one?

I found out about that one a few years ago.

Nothing bad has been reported on that one

I've got to step in here.

1. domaincontrol.com has malicious domains associated with it, yes - just like almost every other NS server out there. Does this make it a rogue NS server? Not even close (though I do have an ongoing investigation into this one).

2. The information posted about Wild West Domains is speculation, nothing more. Is it a bad registrar? No. Does it need to improve it's abuse dept? Yes - just like most other registrars out there (and there's far worse registrars I could name and shame).

3. I'm actually working with GoDaddy to get shot of malicious domains both registered through them, and hosted by them, and although yes, their abuse dept was anything but good, my friend over there is working extremely hard to take everything down quickly.

Thanks for all you do Mystery. :) I see your name all over the place and I didn`t see anything wrong when I went to the site to check it out (sandboxed) but I trust what ever you find.
