Patrick knew her stay on pole would be short

Danica Patrick would love to be the first woman to win the pole for the Indianapolis 500.

She held that spot for 34 minutes Saturday, but she wasn't even the first woman in Indy history to hold the provisional pole.

On Saturday, Patrick's No. 7 Andretti Green Racing car was bumped from the top spot by familiar nemesis Dan Wheldon. She earned the fifth starting spot.

But even during her brief stay in first, she sensed her four-lap average would not stand.

"Let's not count those little eggs before they hatch," she said, entering the media center interview room.

F1 team bosses give Danica green light

If they have the talent, why shouldn't women compete in the top flight, team chiefs assert.

Formula 1's team principals have said they would support the arrival of Danica Patrick in grand prix circles – should IndyCar's newest race-winner elect to follow her teenage dreams and switch across to the top flight in the years to come.

After triumphing in the Indy Japan 300 at Motegi last month, the 26-year-old from Wisconsin admitted that she had long hankered after competing in F1 – right back to the days when she raced in England, during which time she finished runner-up to a certain Anthony Davidson in the prestigious Formula Ford Festival in 2000.

Re: Danica: 2nd Row @ Indy, Possible F-1 Test?

Danica Patrick 'will' get F1 test.
Honda has confirmed that Danica Patrick will get a test in one of its Formula One cars later this year, fuelling speculation that the American is also to be given a race chance in the top flight in the not-too-distant future.

Wisconsin-born Patrick currently sits sixth in the IndyCar Series point standings following her historic breakthrough victory at Motegi back in April, the first success by a female driver in the premier open-wheeled championship across the Pond.

Formula 1 » No Honda F1 test for Danica Patrick

Thursday, 2nd October 2008

Danica Patrick - the first woman ever to triumph in US open-wheel racing with her breakthrough Motegi IndyCar Series success earlier this year - is unlikely now to be given an F1 try-out with Honda, it would seem...

According to Canadian motorsport website Auto123.com, however, a Honda F1 spokeswoman has now stated that there will be no such outing, underlining: “We have no current plans to test Danica Patrick.”
