Would like to re-distribute the FSpamlist IP CSVs

Postby zaphod » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:14 pm

I would like to re-distribute the FSL IP CSV with the StopForumSpam CSV data, as part of the local look-up in ZB Block.

I am going to do it once (unless you give me permission to continue), to test the reactions of the core users in the latest beta update. I am sure a lot of the data will be redundant, but still, any port in a storm.

So, please may I redistribute the FSL IPs by default, mixed with the SFS IPs? ZB Block is still, and will always be a freware GNU/GPL product, so I am hoping you'll be OK with this.

60b will be the beta-test.

Thanks for your consideration,
Zaphod :)

I don't see why not, but of course, Josh will have to give the final word.

Whoops, had to remove integration of the FSpamlist anyway. Reason?: Google Adsense Bot was banned from logging into my board, where I had set up a user account for it. This could wreck my revenue stream. The login and account is to let it see into a members only area, to provide relevant ads.

Here's the ip in question: 66.249.71.72

If all googlebot.com addresses could be removed from the FSL, I could start using it again. Perhaps too there is some other way, but for now, no need to worry.

Interestingly, there were quite a few IP's listed on 66.249.71.0/24, dating back to 2009, added from various sources. These certainly shouldn't have been added, and have now been removed.

As an FYI btw, *.googlebot.com has 66.249.70.0/23. May want to whitelist this one just incase ;) (I thought it was only checking on registration btw ???)

It's checking on Registration, Confirmation of Registration, and Login.

Why on Login? Because some IPs go rogue (sleeper accounts) before attempting to spam. The strength comes from re-checking after during log-in because the IP may have spammed somewhere else.

Is there a flaw in this logic?

hehe nope, no flaw. Wanted to do the same for the SBST but decided against it, as I didn't want to go with an overkill (given the SBST's current method of checking)
