Freeware forums revamp?

Postby bem » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:59 pm

The current layout of the software forums, especially freeware, owe a lot to the need to maintain integrity of the site and any offerings posted. Now that the site has begun to mature and posting restrictions have been somewhat relaxed in this area, perhaps we could shape these different forums into a more cohesive and informative format that would make it easier for the average user to find what they may be looking for.

For instance, we have hosts file problems in the Tips & Tweaks section instead of with Security, for the life of me I can't see the difference between Utilities and Misc., and the Research Center really needs to be divvied up to the appropriate forums and combined with the referencing posts. In fact, Freeware Research Center should probably be the overarching name for the entire section. I can't help but feel that these moves would provide a smoother user experience and enhance the professional image that most of the rest of the forum projects.

Like you have nothing else to do...

(and yes, that is a volunteer offer...)

bem, the original conception of that forum was in expectation of it being a bit more active.

I'm fully open to suggestions to reconfigure, rename or whatever you all think would work best to serve our members.

You lead, I'll follow and make adjustments as we go along.

While I haven't yet been around long enough to see everything on this site, I wouldn't mind helping out in the freeware section "which I haven't seen yet, lol" I have always collected decent non-infected freeware for quite some time and always love a good freeware. Anyway, if help is needed, let me know, I will do what I can if you need the help. ;)

Cheers,

Paul

Tom summed it up very well. The forum was kinda my baby to start with and once initial *stuff* was put into place there just wasn't much going on there. Not much has been done to it for quite some time. Have at it bem! 1rokon
